JOIN THE LUIS OASIS SENIOR CENTER TODAY!
Volunteers Needed
A theme all too common is the many seniors in our community that are home-bound and hoping for someone to come pay them a visit. Those of us who are able to come to the Luis Oasis Senior Center at will are so fortunate and often take for granted our personal freedom. Imagine being stuck at home with nobody to talk to. We try to expand our services and programs here at the Oasis and would like to bring some of those elements to our home-bound seniors inneed. The time for action is now, so we are putting together a program called Oasis Outreach. This is a new program that needs a team of volunteers. No major commitment needed, just a few moments of your time, as much as you are able to give. Last year we delivered cookies at Christmas, but have not followed up with much else and it is August. If you are interested in participating, please call Doug at 937-9750. We are in the beginning stages of planning, so this is the best time to bring any ideas to the table. Some activities might be bringing them a plate of goodies from the potluck, or delivering food from the Oasis Commodities program. You could shoot a video or photos of our Celebrate Our World events for them to see. Maybe there is a program on TV that you would enjoy watching together. There are so many possibilities. If there is a solid program in place, Doug will apply for grants to offset any costs. Please consider participating in Oasis Outreach where we take the Oasis to the community.
Our County Supervisor, Joni Gray, came to the OASIS and presented two of our Board of Directors with a Certificate of Recognition for all of the countless volunteer hours they have given to various charitable organizations on the Central Coast. Vice President, Rick Velasco, and Treasurer, Aubrey Collins, were the recipients and I can’t tell you how pleased I am that they were recognized for their efforts. What outstanding role-models we have! It is truly inspiring to come to the OASIS every day.
Congratulations Rick and Aubrey!
And Thank You to
County Supervisor Joni Gray!
